Lately, I’ve seen a rise in the use of the word “conscious,” as in conscious leadership or conscious organizations. It’s not surprising given the state of the world at the moment. While I believe in consciousness, I also think it’s becoming the next buzzword to sell something.

Consciousness is a state of awareness of your current reality. Your reality lives both in you and in the world around you. All you need to do is to pay attention.

While there are many benefits to practices such as meditation, you don’t need to meditate to be conscious. You do need to calm your mind, though, if you’re going to see things clearly. Go for a walk, stare out the window, or pause to breathe for a moment.

Consciousness gives you the ability to respond to your reality in a way that will create the world you want. What is the world you want to create today?
