“I don’t have time.” If I had a dollar for every time I’ve said that in my life, I’d likely be rich by now. Lately, it seems I find myself saying this simple phrase more and more. Given I’ve become so aware of this mindset, then you have to wonder why I don’t do something about it, right?

For example, I have been talking about writing a book for a couple years now. Admittedly, in hindsight, until very recently I’m not sure I had enough clarity of what I wanted to write about to make it real. That’s not the case anymore, as it seems really clear what I want to write about. Yet, here I am still not writing it.

Am I lazy? Am I unorganized? Do I just suck at prioritizing my time? Am I just kidding myself? If I really want to write the book, wouldn’t I have done it by now? No I’m none of those, I just don’t have time!

A couple weeks back a friend pointed out “when you say you don’t have time, what you actually mean is it’s not a priority for you.” What? No! It’s a priority I just don’t have time! Or at least that’s the story I keep telling myself.

Actually, my friend is right. When I don’t have time for something, it’s because in the time I have available every day it’s simply not a priority to me. So the real question at hand is how I choose to prioritize my time.

This week’s thought:

You have been given the gift of having another day to make a difference in this world. You have all the time you need.

So the question is what will you choose to do with the day you have available?

For me, I doubt I’ll start the book this week and that’s OK. It will happen soon enough, but for this week there are higher priorities.
