While listening to the book, “Nine lies about work,” I had a facepalm moment!

Nothing great happens because someone failed. Great things happen when people operate from their comfort zone and bring their best selves. I knew this, but I’ve been talking about it all wrong.

Risking failure is key to learning, innovation and growth. People need to feel safe to fail, as failure is inevitable when trying to improve. However, failure is not a pre-requisite to growth.

People bring their best selves when operating from their comfort zone. Your job, as a leader, is to help people do great things by tapping into their strengths and knowledge more often.

Your job is also to help them expand their comfort zone, including the times they learn from the experience of failing.
