As a coach, one of the skills I developed is known as self-managing. Self-managing is noticing what is coming up in me, and parking it temporarily to remain focused on my client. In doing this, I am more able to keep the conversation focused on my client.
The problem, though, is that at some point, I need to deal with what I’m feeling. Otherwise, at some point, those feelings are going to cause significant stress.
As a leader, you are often there for other people. Self-managing might be a big part of your leadership. Don’t forget, though, to also look after yourself. Meditate. Talk to a coach or a friend. Journal.
However you do it, don’t forget to give yourself a little loving.
You’ve got this.
