From far away, we humans are unable to understand something or someone fully. It’ll appear vague and without feature. Take, for example, people. From far away, people can seem annoying, problematic, or even threatening. However, you will start to understand them better when you move in and get to see the details of a person.

During one-on-ones with your team, if you do most of talking or set the agenda, you’re missing an opportunity to see what makes them who they are. Let them set the agenda and take the conversation where they want it to go. Be curious, ask powerful questions, and observe.

People are hard to hate close up as now you’re more likely to understand and empathize with them.
