I saw a video on Facebook of Family Feud. The question was, “When your boss asks you to give 110%, how much do you actually give?”

Pilots try to avoid the use of 100% power to reduce fuel burn and engine wear. Drivers avoid pushing their car to the maximum RPMs for the same reasons? So, why do companies ask people to give 110%?

In reality, asking for 100% is as much of a problem as asking for 110%. Much like airplanes and cars, asking people to work at 110% will decrease the quality and burn them out.

If you want more done, then ask your team to find ways to improve how they’re working without working harder. As a leader, your job is to help them excel without burning them out, so don’t solve problems by asking them to push themselves harder.

You’ve got this.
