I know a leader who thought the best way to get people to change was to surprise them with something new. He’d show up and without warning and tell his people they were now doing something different.

Change can be challenging to talk about as a leader. You will be helping people work through their doubts and uncertainty while dealing with your own. However, talking to people will help them be on board with trying something new. The discussion might be difficult as people may disagree, or they might have other ideas. What if, though, one of their ideas is better than yours?

If you don’t take these essential steps, you may find people doing your new thing out of obligation and doing the minimum to satisfy you. Does that sound like a recipe for success?

Talk to people and enable them to help take responsibility for the change you want. Image what becomes possible then.

You’ve got this.
