It occurred to me as I was walking in the forest just how much time I spend following well-worn paths. That’s not surprising, given it’s often usually easier to follow the paths. However, I can’t help but wonder what I’m missing by staying on the path.

In leadership, sometimes the right thing to do is to follow the path that’s already there. There’s nothing wrong with this as you will make lots of progress and with minimal effort.

However, how do you know there isn’t something better waiting for you off the well-worn path? The only way to find out is to leave the path on occasion. Worst case, you can always return to the trail.
