The role of a leader is to create an environment in which people can be at their best. Why, then, do so many leaders focus on the product of the organization?

In many cases, it’s because the culture of the organization values leaders who are product-focused. They promote the best workers into leadership roles, often with a wealth of product knowledge. They use metrics focused on sales, product quality, and features. When you look at the situation, it’s not hard to see how it got this way.

Leaders have their most significant impact when they focus on excellence. Excellence in everything associated with the outcomes they are trying to achieve. The product is simply the sandbox in which you work together to create excellence.

Focus on excellence and the results will look after themselves.

You’ve got this.
