Recently, I was asked if I think it’s possible to lead when you lack domain expertise?

In his book, “Turn the Ship Around!” David Marquette explains how he was assigned to a submarine he didn’t know how to command. Marquette led his crew on to do amazing things because he let go of the need to be the one who knew how to do it all. Instead, he spoke to his intentions and let the experts make it happen (I.e. he let his crew make it happen)

So, yes, I do believe someone can lead when they lack domain expertise. Your team will shine when you let them do what they do best, and your leadership will too.

Let go of the need to have domain expertise and unleash your leadership.

You’ve got this.
