The world is full of hot issues right now. The pandemic, politics, and let’s not forget climate change. The people you work with can’t help but bring the issues with them to work, and it can become polarizing.

The problem is that it’s human nature to defend your beliefs. To do otherwise is admitting that what you believed might be wrong. When this happens, you might unconsciously start protecting your ego.

When you notice this happening, ask yourself some powerful questions. What might be true in what they’re saying, even if it’s only 20% true in your mind? What could you agree to? What would be needed for you to hold different beliefs?

We will only start moving beyond our differences when people are willing to explore those differences, even if that means changing their own position.

You’ve got this.
