In my life, there are times I’ve avoided something out of a fear of failure. I was likely worried about looking stupid or being judged by others. Whatever it was, the reality is I didn’t do what I wanted. While this may leave me feeling like I’ve succeeded in life, have I?

Innovation, creativity, and discovery aren’t possible without some failure along the way. It’s just a fact of life as with every step forward you take; you run the risk of the unknown you face.

Do those you lead believe it’s safe for them to fail? If they don’t feel that way, then they’re likely holding back or trying something safer.

You want them to bring their best selves, don’t you? Then, it would be best if you also let them bring the part which makes mistakes along the way.
