A couple of weeks ago, we were camping in one of Ontario’s Provincial Parks. While we had a great time, we noticed the wardens (security) were patrolling far less than in previous years. The impact was an increase in noise and garbage left lying around.

It would be easy to blame the wardens for this as they are the ones who do the patrolling. However, what if they’re doing the best they can with what they have available? With a little digging, I found some massive budget cuts resulted in the parks not being able to hire as many seasonal staff this year.

Pause the next time you find yourself complaining about someone not doing a good job. Try looking for the underlying reason that is leading to your experience. Is it stress caused by what’s happening in the world? Is it unclear or misaligned expectations? Is it your leadership?

You’ve got this.
