I don’t hide my opinions about certifications. Which might have some people wondering, then, why I would bother with the International Coaching Federation’s Professional Certified Coach Certification (PCC). I resisted certifying for several years, as I just couldn’t see the value.

However, as the coaching industry has become diluted with people who have little (or no) coach training, I thought it was time to demonstrate may commitment to the professionalism of the coaching industry. Does it change anything for me, no, other than three more letters to put with my name.

If you’re thinking of doing a certification, do it for the right reason. Your reasons might differ from me, but I subscribe to ideals like, professionalism, contribution, and acknowledgement of my accomplishment. What’s your reason?
