Recently, I heard that researchers are finding the mind’s inability to predict the future causes stress. While creating accurate predictions can be challenging, we can always dream up a prediction.
Perhaps the stress comes when we try to control the future as we try to make a prediction real. The tighter you hang on to your prediction, the more stress you’re going to experience when things change or go wrong. An unstable environment likely makes the stress worse, as you would know, there’s little hope of realizing your predictions.
When your predictions are wrong, don’t hang on too tight to them. Ask yourself a question like, “Where to from here?” Then, form another prediction and keep going.
You’ve got this.
