The problem with words is how each of us can interpret them differently. The problem is the unintended impact the misunderstandings have.

To catch a misunderstanding sooner, establish a feedback loop. Find a way for you to be able to see the impact your words are having. The loop might be immediate, or it might be something to pay attention to with time.

You can ask for a followup. You might look for the symptoms of what they understood. It might be through the actions you take. There are lots of ways to get feedback.

I can’t promise you’ll catch all the misunderstandings. However, I promise a feedback loop will help you catch more of them before they become a big problem. Sounds like a win to me.

You’ve got this.
