A manager once told me in a performance review that I was condescending towards a team member. My immediate response was one of shock. Who said that? When did it happen?

I spent a lot of time racking my brain and trying to figure out what happened.

I may not agree with the feedback or see it in myself. However, there must be some degree of truth in it if it was said.

Perhaps I was too confident in a meeting. Maybe I made an inappropriate comment. Whatever it was, from the other person’s perspective, I may have come across as condescending.

There will be times you receive feedback that you’ll struggle to accept or recognize. Rather than discounting it out of hand, look for the truth in the feedback, no matter how small that might be.

Feedback is a gift. Please don’t waste it.

You’ve got this.
