I once worked for a leader who, when I’d go to his office to discuss an issue, would barely look up from his monitor. It was frustrating as it would leave me feeling unheard and as if my voice didn’t matter.
Are you listening to those you lead?
When they come to you, do you just give some advice so you can get back to your tasks? Or, do you listen to them and seek their advice?
Finding out what people are thinking and feeling is the doorway to empathy. It’s also the doorway into others feeling valued.
Listen. Ask for their thoughts and feelings.
You never know what doorway you might open.
You’ve got this.
