Who says leadership has to be hard work? One place to look when it feels hard is whether your team is too dependant on your presence and direction. To test this, ask, “what would happen if I went off the grid for a week?”

It is your problem, not theirs, if it feels like they are too dependant on you. Do they hold the same vision and know why they are doing this work?

Often, leaders will attempt to give people purpose by speaking to their minds. “We are going to build product x and market it to ….” What you are doing is essential information, but will keep them dependent on you too much if that’s all they know.

Speak to their hearts. Give them purpose in a way to create an emotional reaction. When you speak to their hearts, they will take it from there. They will know what direction to go.

Leadership is one of the hardest things you will do with your life, but it doesn’t have to be hard work.

You’ve got this.
