Great leaders go for walks around the office regularly. When leaders go for walks, they often pick up on things as a result of a hallway conversation or something they observe. It’s also a sign that you value your connection with the people you lead.
So, what are leaders to do in this time of isolation? Simple, keep walking around. The difference, though, is that you obviously can’t get up and walk around.
Instead, phone the people on your team to say “hi” and check-in with how they’re doing. Don’t schedule this time, and if you get their voice-mail, leave a friendly note to accomplish the same thing.
Small informal connections will go a long way.
You’ve got this.
