I see leaders putting significant efforts into changing things for their teams. Then, as soon as things don’t go to plan, everyone slides back to old patterns and habits.
Often, things backslide as you have dealt with the problem you can see, and not what allowed the problem to exist. I’m talking about the problem under the problem.
When you encounter a problem, don’t stop digging. Ask powerful questions and look for the conditions which allowed the problem to exist. You can only create lasting change when you find the conditions underlying the problem you see.
