Leadership is challenging.

I teach vulnerability is a strength, but don’t get too vulnerable. I urge leaders to take risks but don’t get careless. I champion leaders to push through their fears, but be aware of how far is too much.

It seems leadership is a bunch of paradoxes strung together to make life complicated. How are you supposed to be an effective leader when you are continually confronted with paradoxes?

The answer is to trust yourself. Trust you know the right thing to do and then do it. Leadership is also trusting that if you make a mess, you can clean it up.

Despite the paradoxes, the only way to lead is to keep moving. So, yes, leadership is full of paradoxes. I find that one of the exciting parts of being a leader. I hope you will too.

You’ve got this.
