Thanks to the work of people like Brenè Brown, we know vulnerability isn’t a bad thing. Vulnerability is a super-power when it comes to teamwork, leadership, and life in general.
We all have different tolerances to how far we’re willing to take vulnerability. Vulnerability is a scary prospect for some and no problem for others. There truly is no right or wrong to how much vulnerability is appropriate.
Vulnerability isn’t spilling your guts. Vulnerability is letting people take a small peek at how you’re feeling.
The amount of vulnerability on a team will be proportional to the amount of trust that exists. Make it safe for people to be vulnerable and trust that they will go as far as they are comfortable. As trust increases, you’ll find them being more vulnerable with each other.
Watch how quickly they work through problems when they amplify their vulnerability.
You’ve got this.
