In the midst of all the racial issues in the world today, it seems there’s a rush to distance ourselves from anything that could be perceived as supporting racism. For example, there’s a movement to rename my city, Kitchener. The objection to the continued use of the name is based on the questionable conduct of its namesake, Lord Kitchener, during the Boer wars.

This type of issue becomes problematic when people start to evaluate people who hold a different opinion. While we humans are wired to judge, we are also wired to stop listening to each other once we pass judgement.

What we need more than anything in the world today is to listen to each other without judgement. Through this dialogue, we will start to understand each other better and have a better chance of finding a path forward.

Without listening, all we’re doing is talking at each other.

You’ve got this.
