I went to a manager to let them know about a problem on the team. The manager told me it couldn’t be true as it’s the first time she’s heard about it.

Frustrating!

When you first hear of a problem, it would be normal not to believe them at first. This is a mindset known as denial.

Rather than saying a problem can’t be true because it’s the first you hear about a problem, take a different approach.

Thank them for bringing the problem to your attention. Admit you haven’t heard about it, and ask if it would be ok for you to look into it and get back to them.

Make sure you do get back to them, or next time they may not bother telling you about a problem.

You’ve got this.
