Why does your team follow you? Is it because of your title or position? Is it because of how you’ve responded to problems in the past? Or is it because they believe what you believe?

If people are following you for any reason other than what they believe, you run the risk of them doing it out of obligation. In obligation, they are only going to do the minimum required to satisfy you. Does that sound like you’ll get their best?

Spend time getting to know your team and letting them know you better. What do they value? What do they believe? What lights them up and brings out their best.
