The Approach to Team Development

When you’re sick, a doctor diagnoses what’s happening and THEN selects the best treatment to help you heal. In some cases, follow-up is provided to ensure you continue to improve.

It’s similar to the experience in the Resilient Teaming program, except we will work together to understand what is happening.

Only then will I start building a program with your team and for your team. Through this, their program will address what they need most.

The three phases to a Deep Dive Program:

Preparation

A short period of getting to know each other, understanding the team dynamic, and starting to equip the team with the tools needed to overcome challenges.

Deep Dive Retreat

We will then go offsite for a Deep Dive retreat, in which the team will step into a brave space with each other. In this space, free from the expectations and distractions of their daily lives, a deep dive will happen.

Reinforce and Support

Upon returning home, we will continue to work together virtually for a short period to reinforce and support the work the team started.

Through this experience, they will be on a teaming journey that never ends.

The number one objection

The number one objection I hear is, “My team is overwhelmed, and I just don’t know if we can make the time for this program.”

The question is, “Can you afford to NOT make such an investment in your team?”

Here’s what I know: If your team is overwhelmed, then they’re coping. If they’re coping, then they’re not doing their best work. Their best requires them to feel resilient more than they do now.

People who spend too much time coping are the ones who burn out, develop apathy related to their work, or leave.

So, can you afford not to take the time for this program?

FAQs

Is this work done virtually or in person?

The work before and after the retreat can easily be done virtually. The retreat has the best impact in person, away from the participants’ daily work environment. I understand, though, that sometimes in-person isn’t feasible, and it can be done virtually with some adjustments.

Could we have more than one team go through the program at the same time?

It depends. Let’s discuss your needs and explore approaches to achieving your vision while maximizing the value for your teams.

Is there a guarantee that this program will succeed?

The butterfly effect states that when a butterfly flaps its wings in North America, a typhoon occurs on the other side of the world.

This is saying that we can not know the full impact when we work together, such as through deep Dive Teaming.

However, we need to do deeper work to change the path your team is on. Through this, you will start to seed a transformation with no destination. So, why constrain their growth with a made-up metric that fails to define the true potential of your team?

Wait, are you saying we won't measure the team's progress?

Yes, we will. I’ll also leave you with the tools to continue doing so. However, they won’t include metrics such as productivity, work quality, or timely delivery. You might still use such metrics, but they cannot indicate the real indications of their progress as a team.

One team I worked with measured teamwork by the amount of collaboration happening (i.e. the amount of talking in the space.) Another used a happiness check-in. Yet, another measured teamwork based on the drop in escalations because the team was working on problems together.

Is management involved with the program?

There are some smaller parts of the program you won’t be invited to attend as the team needs to do their work without outside influences. However, you will be a big part of reinforcing the changes that start to happen when we’re working together. So, yes, count on participating, otherwise, the team will struggle as you, and they develop a misalignment.
